kim and niki

Congratulations on your engagement! This is a busy and exciting time for you, and we are thrilled that you found us!

Y’know, we are kind of like a married couple. In the 12 years that we have been shooting together we have developed a really strong partnership. We see things differently, and yet we complement each other beautifully. We consider ourselves artists and storytellers, and we really have a good time making photographs. And we really want you to have a good time too!

N: So, Kim…tell me what you love about shooting weddings.

K: I think what I love most about shooting weddings is that every weekend I get to become intimately involved with two people, their families and friends. The way light plays on a set of features that is new to me, and to capture moments that will never happen again, being there at the right time. My favorite time of the whole day is when the groom first sees the bride. His reaction is unique and beautiful and i get to capture that. In a way, I get to experience that joy, and it reminds me that I am blessed because I get to see people fall in love every weekend, and in turn i get to go home and fall in love with my husband every weekend.

N: The thing I love about your photos is that they are immediately familiar. I feel like I know these people, when I see your photos.

K: You should— you are right there with me! Ha ha!

N: It’s true. Getting to know our clients is one of the best parts of our job. We really do get attached to our couples.

K: What about you..what do you love?

N: I really love making portraits. I respond to architectural elements and beautiful light. I love working with people to create an interesting and dynamic composition. I am interested in the relationships between people, and what brings them together. I love how weddings document the braiding together of families and traditions. Oh, and shoes. Lots and lots of shoes!

K: Yeah, you really do have kind of a shoe fetish. What I really love about your work is the way you shoot things that I would never think to shoot— you are so good at capturing the abstract details, important elements that tell the story of the day, the way it felt to actually be there.

N: It’s kind of like I tell the big story and you tell the small story.

K: It really takes us both to tell the whole story.

N: That’s cool. And even cooler, is that I get to work with my best friend every weekend!

K: Me too!
